SALT LAKE CITY – Are you interested in becoming a master gardener? There’s a program for that in Utah!
Utah State University Extension Associate Professor Michael Caron joined Taun and Maria on the KSL Greenhouse show last week to share everything you need to know about the program.

The Master Gardener Program is offered by Utah State University. It is a volunteer-based training program that aims to help spread research-based information about local gardening and home horticulture. It’s also a great opportunity to make lifelong friends with fellow gardeners.
The program runs from January to March or May, depending on the county schedule. You can register through Eventbrite, but you can also call your county office to find out what they offer.
“This is a service-based program, but we do allow people to take the classes if they don’t have time to do the service… We hope that you do service, but it’s not a requirement. Some counties—like Salt Lake—it is a requirement, so you need to talk to the particular county,” Taun said.
The topics will also vary to some extent.
“Typically the class covers about 15 subjects, more or less… Basically, the Master Gardener Program is like an Introduction to Horticulture class,” Michael said.
The KSL Greenhouse is on every Saturday from 8 a.m.-11 a.m. You can follow the show on Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, and on our website.
