SALT LAKE CITY — Are you looking for some delicious apples? Pyne Farms Owner Kent Pyne joined Taun and guest co-host Dave on the KSL Greenhouse show last week, and he brought in some unique and popular apple varieties you can find here in Utah.
Braeburn apple
The Braeburn apple originated in New Zealand. It is a late-season apple known for being tart and a little sweet.
“In storage, it will start to sweeten up a little bit more. It’s a great eating apple, and it’s great to bake with,” Kent said.
Honeycrisp apple
The Honeycrisp apple is one of the more commonly known apple varieties. The best part about this variety is that your mouth gets an explosion of juice with each bite.
Elliott Gold apple
The Elliott Gold apple is local to Utah because it was discovered in Provo. However, it is hard to find these as very few people still grow them. Pyne Farms is one of the few apple orchards in Utah where you can get your hands on these.
It’s a sweet, yellow apple. Although yellow apples aren’t as popular as red apples are, they’re actually very tasty. Dave even picked it as his favorite of the four!
Ludacrisp apple
The last apple that Kent introduced was the Ludacrisp apple. What’s unique about this variety is that it is the only one that is still bearing.
The KSL Greenhouse is on every Saturday from 8 a.m.-11 a.m. You can follow the show on Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, and on our website.
