SALT LAKE CITY — The Miss Utah pageant happens this weekend. Fifty-one women will compete for the crown, but there’s another pageant in a couple of weeks that’s both intriguing and menacing because it features zero human contestants.

It’s the first annual Miss AI Pageant.

Each of the contestants is so beautiful they could stop traffic, but they never will because they’re figments of a computer’s imagination. They’re made up, they’re generated by artificial intelligence. They’re not real. But each has an Instagram page and each claims to represent a social cause.

Remember Caitlin Upton? She had an an epic fail in the Miss Teen USA pageant in 2007. She was in one of the first viral YouTube videos ever.

Since then, Caitlin has modeled for Donald Trump’s modeling agency. And, she finished third on The Amazing Race. She has two kids and does real estate in Los Angeles. A happy ending.

But an AI pageant contestant would never answer a question so poorly. It might answer wrong and start talking about Hitler, but poise? These women created by Nvidia chips are picture-perfect. At the Miss AI pageant they’ll face four judges; two human, two AI judges.

Each contestant is designed by an AI Modeling Agency.

Yes, those exist.

Sweaty tech bros now invent beautiful women for a living and book them for modeling gigs. And get to keep all the money. As they will at the Miss AI pageant. The sweaty tech bro who dreams up the winning woman gets $12,000 thousand. The beautiful girl who wins the computer-generated sash gets nothing.

Same as ever.
