SALT LAKE CITY – Need tips for booking your next well-deserved vacation? In the latest Let’s Get Moving with Maria podcast episode, Maria Shilaos spoke with Claire Newell, Founder of Travel Best Bets, to learn why travel insurance is important, where to find some of the best booking deals, how to avoid scams, and more.
Newell says it’s important to take vacations for our overall health and wellness.
“We live chaotic lives. We’re often tied to computers, social media, and our phones, and getting away is so important,” she said.
Unfortunately, it seems like not enough people actually take a vacation when they need it. According to Expedia, 65% of people in the U.S. feel vacation deprived. The top reason for this was that they felt too busy to plan or go on one.
Booking a budget vacation
On top of that, traveling has gotten so expensive to do over the last few years. Newell says these days booking early will help you save some money. Just make sure you have a good understanding of the cancellation policies.
Another way you can successfully travel on a budget is by looking for accommodations with at least a mini fridge or a kitchenette. That way you can spend less money eating out.
Newell also encourages looking into a couple different options for travel insurance. You may have some coverage through your work policy or your credit card, although both are usually very limited.
“It often gets more expensive based on how much you’re spending, how long your trip is, and your age… The reality is it’s not for the things that you expect,” she said.
