SALT LAKE CITY – Summer is just a few weeks away! Let’s start ditching the bad habits and get moving on the healthy habits. From exercise to nutrition to sleep, there are so many ways we can improve our health before summer comes.

In the latest Let’s Get Moving with Maria podcast episode, Maria Shilaos spoke with Brent Franson, CEO and Founder of Most Days, to learn how we can prepare for a happy and healthy summer.

Compared to winter, summer is typically a time when it’s easier for people to be happy and healthy. Part of the reason is because there is less stress from work and school. However, Franson pointed out that there are habits we have accumulated during the winter that aren’t easy to drop and, therefore, follow us into the summer months.

When it comes to fixing unhealthy habits, Franson says it all goes back to the three basics: sleep, diet, and exercise.

First, figure out how you can prioritize your sleep. That means making your sleep environment comfortable for you.

“The cheat is going to be having your phone outside of the bedroom. You want to make sure you put your phone in your closet. Put it somewhere that’s out of reach. Get off of those screens about an hour before bed,” Franson said.

The next part is the diet. Drop the rich, filling foods that you had in the winter and start eating more of the lighter, whole foods.

Finally, exercise! It may be easier to get outside in the summer but remember the only way you can really motivate yourself to get moving is to find something you like to do.
