WEST HAVEN, Utah — A 12-year-old boy’s death in West Haven is being called child abuse homicide said the Weber County Sheriff’s Office on Facebook.
The boy’s father, 46-year-old Shane Peterson, is under arrest on suspicion of child abuse homicide, aggravated child abuse, and child endangerment.
The boy’s stepmother, 50-year-old Nichole Scott, is under arrest on suspicion of child abuse homicide, aggravated child abuse, obstruction of justice, child endangerment, and possession of controlled substance.
Police said WCSO responded to a “medical incident” in West Haven that involved the boy on July 9.
“Upon arrival deputies assisted family members in performing CPR on the child until EMS arrived on scene and took over medical care,” police said.
The WCSO said an ambulance transported the child to the hospital, where he died.
“These type of cases are extremely difficult to process and investigate. We would like to thank the community for their patience as the investigation continues,” police said.
The WCSO thanked medical personnel, deputies and other agencies that assisted with the investigation.
“We extend our gratitude to the Weber County Investigations Bureau and Weber Metro CSI for the countless hours worked to bring charges and their commitment to uphold justice.”
Police said the boy’s father and stepmother were arrested on Wednesday by investigators with the WCSO.
On Thursday, investigators arrested the boy’s 21-year-old brother, Tyler Peterson. He is under arrest with charges of child abuse homicide, two counts of aggravated child abuse, and obstruction of justice.
An investigation continues.
