SALT LAKE CITY — It seems like Utah has become a magnet for Californians looking to relocate, but is that really the case?
New research shows that, yes, Utah’s biggest group of in-migrants are Californians. However, it’s not being targeted. Utah doesn’t get near the amount of Californians that places like Texas and Arizona. In fact, Utah is number 15 on the list of the top places that people from the Golden State are moving to.
Senior Demographer for the Kem C. Gardner Policy Institute Emily Harris said there are “just a lot of Californians.”
“A lot of states have their largest source of migrants coming from California,” she said.
Harris said Texas is the top state Californians are moving to. It gets six times more Californians than the Beehive State.
“Utah receives about 2.5% of all of California migrants, which isn’t that large compared to some other places,” she said. “Like Texas, which is getting 12.5%.”
However, she said as long as Utah has a strong economy with lots of jobs, our growth will steadily continue.
