OGDEN, Utah — OTECH, Ogden’s technical college, now shares a campus with a new technical high school. The campus is a first-of-its-kind in the district.
OTECH High School celebrated with a ribbon-cutting ceremony earlier this week.
Teenagers and college students alike are thinking further ahead about their careers. Like many of her peers, Lucy Blodgett, a soon-to-be junior at Ogden High School, is already mapping out her career path. She plans to attend OTECH High School for their cosmetology program.
“I want to cut hair. So, I want to go into the cosmetology program,” said Blodgett. “I can continue being a part of Ogden High School and participate in their events and activities.”
Students like Blodgett gain a head start toward their dream career, a step that OTECH High School leadership hopes students will think about.
A year after breaking ground, the halls are lined with pictures of various professionals, like a nurse and a chef, to inspire students to see what they can become.
According to a press release, the new 17,578-square-foot facility can accomodate up to 300 students. However, 115 students are scheduled to start the 2024-2025 school year on Aug. 16.
Per the press release, the OTECH High School principal, Dana Nolan expects the number of students to grow as time passes.
“I think it’s creating more opportunities for them,” said Nolan.
