Salt Lake City to officially host 2034 Winter Olympics

SALT LAKE CITY — It’s official, the Winter Olympics are coming back to Salt Lake City in 2034. The International Olympic Committee held its final vote in Paris early Wednesday morning.

In a vote with 83 in favor and 6 against, the International Olympic Committee decided Salt Lake City would host the 2034 Winter Olympic Games.

“It’s been 12 years, actually longer than that, and here we are. We got the games,” president and CEO of the Salt Lake City Organizing Committee Fraser Bullock said. “(IOC members) love Utah. They love Salt Lake City. They love the people. So, here we go.”
According to Salt Lake City Mayor Erin Mendenhall, 80% of Utahns support the Olympics returning to Utah.
Gov. Spencer Cox told KSL NewsRadio there is a “sense of relief” and an “immense sense of joy,” now that the announcement has been made.
Thousands of people gathered in Washington Square Park to celebrate the announcement.

Along with the crowd, the Salt Lake City Police Department offered its congratulations.
