SALT LAKE CITY — The kids are tossing backpacks over their shoulders, so now it’s time to answer the question critical to every teenager: What was the song of summer? What was that song that, 40 years from now, will instantly send them back to the awesome summer of ’24?
And there’s no clear winner. The most streamed song of summer was the pop confection Chappell Roan.
Rolling Stone called her the Thrift Shop Pop Star who grew her audience uploading cover songs to YouTube. The 26-year-old exploded this summer with the song ‘Good Luck, Babe.’
Another nominee is Sabrina Carpenter and her song ‘Espresso’, which sounds like something you’d hear piped into a hip hotel lobby.
Our final song of summer is called ‘365’.
This is Charli XCX. That’s her name. I don’t know how to pronounce XCX and Paul Rudd apparently doesn’t know either.
She’s British, but she’s swaying some young American voters. Because her album is titled Brat.
People called this season “brat summer.” But in this case, the word brat is a good thing. A brat is a messy girl who likes to party… says dumb things sometimes. It became such a big thing… fans call Kamala Harris “brat.” And it’s supposed to be a good thing.
I’m not sure I understand … The word brat seems to be just a vibe that means summer of ’24, which is fading away without a single song that stands out above the others.
Which is why throwbacks are hot. Deadpool and Wolverine has brought *this* song back to Spotify playlists?
So bye bye to the songless summer of ’24.
