SALT LAKE CITY — The Utah Legislature has decided they will convene this week in a special session.
This special session is to give voters the opportunity to decide the nature of voting initiatives.
Per a statement from the Senate, the special session will happen Wednesday, August 21, 2024, at 4:45 p.m.
If this decision is passed by the Legislature, a state constitutional amendment will be on the November ballot.
If voters approve it would mean foreign entities would be prohibited from contributing to ballot initiatives or referenda. It would also mean the practice of local bodies amending and repealing legislation will be strengthened through this decision.
The vote will also add 20 days to the now 40 days to collect signatures for the referendum process.
