SALT LAKE CITY — I have a mug on my desk. The handle’s chipped off — but I didn’t throw it away because I like the message on the mug. It says “Words Matter.”
A reminder to choose them carefully every day in front of this microphone. And in a twisted way, today we see an example of not words, but a single word that mattered so much it may alter the course of history.
The word, from the mouth of Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, resonated so strongly with Democrats that today Kamala Harris named him her running mate. The word uttered on MSNBC when Walz talked about Donald Trump and divisiveness.
“We can’t even go to Thanksgiving dinner with our uncle,” he said, “because you end up in some weird fight that is unnecessary… well it’s true I think these guys are just weird.”
There it is. Weird. That one word won him Kamala’s blessing. Since that statement, Democrats can’t stop calling Republican leadership weird.
“They’re running for he-man-woman haters club or something,” he continued in the interview. “That’s not what people are interested in.”
Plain-speaking 60-year-old Governor Walz is a liberal, but he doesn’t give off an Antifa vibe. He’s more like the Dr. Rick. The guy in those commercials about turning into your parents.
That’s who Tim Walz reminds me of. And he’s now running for VP.
I never pictured the guy in the Progressive Commercials would be running for vice president. It’s kinda… weird.
