SALT LAKE CITY — Vacation season is coming and I have a question: What is it about vacation time that makes people stupid?
Every year we hear about people getting too close and beaten up by Bison at Yellowstone. Vacationers from back east who do the “here kitty kitty thing” with mountain lions. And then you have the folks who leave food out, hoping to get a snapshot of a black bear.
Is it, “I paid a lot for this vacation and I’m going to squeeze it for everything I can?” Is it egomaniac animal lovers who think they can soothe the savage beast? What makes a person plop themselves into the middle of spellbinding nature and decide they alone can break the rules of the animal kingdom? Is it for likes?
Well, you’re gonna like this. On the beach in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico this week, all the Americanos are enjoying their vacation. Toes in the sand, gentle waves lapping at the shore. That’s when a bull — a big bull — wanders onto the beach.
And a tourist decides… she’s gonna feed him. From a bowl. In her hand. People are screaming and yelling at her. Nooooo…
Of course, the bull beats the stuffing out of the woman, this is on social media. It knocks her down, pulls the beach bag off her arm, and she goes back to get it. Everybody is screaming, their making children look away. The bull gores her and she’s down in the heap in the sand.
Fortunately, somebody had the presence of mind to splash a bucket of water on the bull and it ran away. We don’t know what happened to the woman left in a heap, but we know what you’re not supposed to do on vacation this summer.
Right?
