19-year-old killed in Riverton shooting under “highly unusual” circumstances, police say

RIVERTON, Utah — Police are investigating an overnight shooting in Riverton that left a 19-year-old man dead.
Riverton Police initially responded to a call of shots fired late Sunday night.
Officers found a 19-year-old man with gunshot wounds.
“Unusual” details in Riverton shooting
The man was wearing a Kevlar vest and also had a handgun and a machete, according to Josh Lee with Riverton Police.
“This is highly unusual. I’ve personally never seen this before, for somebody to — I mean they’re coming for some kind of confrontation,” Lee said.
Police said the 19-year-old was declared dead at the hospital. They will not say more about his identity until they notify his family.
Officers also found a jacket with an ID that led them to an Orem address, where they took a 20-year-old and 24-year-old into custody for questioning.
Authorities have not filed any charges.
