DRAPER, Utah — Canyons School District announced that it will purchase the 36-acre former headquarters of eBay. The district will transform the area into a technical education high school.
According to a press release, the Canyons Board of Education approved the acquisition contract on Tuesday.
The purchase will include eBay’s former 215,000-square-foot headquarters building and 16 acres of land.
Canyons School District plans to spend $50 million to purchase the eBay property. The press release said the purchase will be funded by “the capital fund balance and proceeds from the sale of CSD-owned properties.”
For the remainder of the cost, the district plans to issue lease-revenue bonds.
The price of the purchase will be roughly half the cost of designing and constructing a new school, per the press release.
What will the district use the building for?
According to the press release, the location of the former eBay campus is steps away from a FrontRunner station. It was referred to as a “prime spot” for a school focused on career and technical education.
The campus could hold more than a high school. Canyons said that it “may” also use the campus for a vocational program for adult students who have disabilities.
Additionally, it could house a health and wellness clinic and childcare center for district employees.
“The vision is to elevate all the programs that are preparing students for the workforce pipeline. We see this center as the ultimate experience for students and to lift our mission of ensuring our students are truly ready for the demands of college and careers when they walk across the graduation stage,” said Canyons Superintendent Rick Robins.
The board of education is aiming to open the new building in fall 2026.
